Capt. Raymond “Ray” Craig is a 787 engineering project pilot for The Boeing Company. In this position, Craig is responsible for conducting the flight test program on ZA003, the fourth 787 airplane to enter test.

Craig joined The Boeing Company in 1988, supporting the A-6 Replacement Wing Program, based in Wichita, Kan. Craig has been a Boeing experimental flight test pilot for new commercial airplanes since 1990. He was part of the team that supported the 737 airplane, the most popular jet transport in history. From 1992 to 1994 he was a member of the 777 flight test crew, logging hundreds of virtual flight hours in the Integrated Airplane Systems Laboratory to validate the systems before the real airplane left the ground. Craig is FAA type-rated in all current production Boeing airplanes.

Before joining Boeing, Craig served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, from 1974 to 1988, where he was a fleet and engineering test pilot, primarily flying the A-7 Corsair airplane stationed on aircraft carriers.

Craig graduated with honors from the U.S. Naval Academy with a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering. He also earned a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School while concurrently graduating from the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School. He is a member of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.
